How can we ensure every child has equal access to educational opportunities and support so they can succeed, especially during the coronavirus pandemic? ATX Together explores the barriers students of color face and ways to combat education inequities.

Part 1 of KVUE’s series “Racial Equality: Building A Better Austin for Latinos” included interviews with leaders of the Austin Latino Coalition, Paul Saldaña and Jill Ramirez.
The Austin Latino Coalition discussed the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 in Austin’s Latino community and how the Coalition challenged City officials regarding the lack of a mitigation plan.
Entering week 47 of the pandemic Latinos still represent the majority of COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Austin, Travis County.
"Paul Saldaña is a native Austinite and serves as President and Principal of Saldaña Public Relations. With a life-long commitment to Austin and its diverse communities Paul has spent nearly 30 years in local public relations, governmental affairs and multicultural communications.
Saldaña is the former Chief of Staff to Mayor Gus Garcia, the first and only Latino elected Mayor of Austin. Saldaña also served as Vice President of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees.
Saldaña is a firm believer in giving back to the community through volunteer work, community service and advocacy to honor the life and legacies of Latino leaders such as César Chávez" who said: "We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community. Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.”
